SCRIPTURE: “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever.” (John 14:16 NIV)The Holy Spirit who Jesus said would abide with us forever is our comforter. He is here to be to us everything Jesus was to His disciples when He was present with them. Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as our comforter, the word comforter, used in older translations of the Bible originally meant strengthen. The Holy Spirit strengthens the weak, lifts up the fallen and gives the motivation in our lives as Christians. The Holy Spirit draws alongside us or close to us and encourages us to draw alongside or close to other people.The Holy Spirit, Jesus said, would be like He was, comforting to the distressed but sometimes distressing to the comfortable. The Holy Spirit is real and abiding friend who loves us, He will never abandon us in the midst of difficulty, but rather encourage, comfort and strengths us always. |
