The Church In Pergamum
SCRIPTURE: “Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: You have people there who hold to teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin by eating food sacrificed to idols and by committing sexual immorality. Likewise you also have those hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.” (Rev.2:14-16 NIV).
Balak was a king who feared the large number of Israelites traveling through his country, so he hired Balaam to pronounce a curse on them. Balaam refused at first to do it, but an offer of money made him willing. Later Balaam influenced the Israelites to turn to idol worship. Here Christ rebuked the church for tolerating those who, like Balaam, lead people away from God. There is room for differences of opinion among Christians in some areas, but there is no room for heresy and moral impunity. As believers, we might not participate in idol feasts, but probably we involve ourselves in pornography, sexual sin, cheating, gossiping, and lying. Beloved, do not tolerate sin by bowing to the pressure to open-minded.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” – Hebrews 4 : 12 (NLT)
