|SCRIPTURE: “Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. “. (Romans 8:23 NIV)|
Our bodies are useful to Jesus, but that doesn’t mean they only matter for this life.
One of the most distinctive tenets of the Christian faith (and sadly, often overlooked) is that God has an eternal plan for our bodies. They are not just a temporary necessity for now, in the age to come we will not have “graduated” out of our physical lives into some floaty alternative.
If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Jesus Christ from the dead will also give life to our mortal bodies (Romans 8:11).
We will be resurrected, these bodies-sin-worn and imperfect though they are -will be raised to a new and perfect life. The death of our bodies won’t be the end of it. Our footprints and fingerprints will be all over the new creation. The promise of resurrection for our bodies makes our use of them now all the more significant.
