SCRIPTURE TEXT: “So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.”— Galatians 5:16-18 Holy Spirit, Truth Divine, Dawn upon this soul of mine; Word of God and inward light, Wake my spirit and clear my sight. Holy Spirit, Love Divine Glow within this heart of mine; Kindle every high desire; Perish self in Thy pure fire. Holy Spirit, Right Divine, King within my conscience reign; Be my Lord, and I shall be Firmly bound, forever free. (Samuel Longfellow 1819-1892) This hymn is one that is accepted by all Christians. The Holy Spirit is praised as truth, love, power, and right. The last stanza reminds us of the words inn the gospel pf John where it says that the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. The Spirit does carry on this ministry within us as that”still, small voice” that shows us the way. As Longfellow wrote, may we pray the Holy Spirit reign as King within our consciences. PRAYER: “Dear Holy Spirit, lead in every aspect of my life” Amen. |
