PRAYER IS THE KEY

“That they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”. – Colossians 2:2-3

Many Christians are ignorant of God’s boundless grace. Their need blinds them to the One who could supply their needs if they would only trust Him.

Time and again Scripture reiterates that God is more willing to give than we are to receive. We are constantly reminded that if we pray and believe, we will receive that which we pray for. Prayer is the key that unlocks the treasure chambers of God.

How God is going to answer your prayers is neither your responsibility nor your concern. A simple childlike faith that looks to God and believes unconditionally that He answers prayer is the kind of prayer that God answers with joy.

Lord, thank You for the key of prayer with which we can unlock Your precious blessings. Amen.

THE CHRISTIANS DEEPEST DESIRE

SCRIPTURE
“I want to know Christ.” – Philippians 3:10

MESSAGE
To be a Christian means knowing Christ and loving Him dearly. Jesus often taught that it is difficult to live isolated from love.
Love, because of its intrinsic nature, rises above all differences of race, colour and denomination. Because love is the determining factor in life, it cannot be confined to the limitations of the human mind and experience. It must flow from the Christian in order to be seen, to inspire, to heal and to encourage. Our desire must be to know Christ better and to serve Him better in love.
Such a love cannot be created by human emotion and desire because God is its origin and source.

PRAYER
Lord, teach me to be strong and faithful in my love for You and also to love my neighbour as myself. Amen.

AN EFFECTIVE PRAYER LIFE

Scripture

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6.

Message

Of all the Christian disciplines, prayer is the most commonly practiced and the least understood. Prayer should not be regarded as a life jacket in desperate times or as a wish list.

We begin by establishing a relationship of prayer with God. Develop an understanding of the living Christ, study His Word and meditate on His presence.

Thank and praise God for the privilege of prayer, and then cast all your cares, fears, problems and requests on Him and ask Him to grant you what He knows you need, as well as the grace to handle any situation that might arise. If you do this, God’s plan will soon begin to unfold in your life.

Prayer

You grant us more than we could ever ask for. We always have the blessed assurance of your love and know that Your promises hold good. Amen.

PRAY FOR DISCERNMENT

Scripture

“Your righteousness is everlasting and Your law is true. Trouble and distress have come upon me, but Your commands are my delight. – Psalm 119:142-143

Message

The trials and tribulations of life often force us to turn to someone or something for help. The psalmist, however, knew it was best to turn to God for wisdom and discernment.

He asked of God, “Give me understanding that I may live.” He knew that God’s plan for his life would preserve him from wrongful actions and would destroy the path of the foolish. Therefore he chose to delight himself in God and to uphold His statutes.

God promises to grant us wisdom if we ask Him for it (James 1:5).

Pray to God for discernment and wisdom in your struggle and ask Him to teach you what you need to know so you can apply His wisdom to your situation.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I am your redeemed servant and I ask for wisdom and discernment. Amen.

SINCERE LOVE

Scripture

“Love must be sincere.” – Romans 12:9

Message

Although we may doubt the sincerity of people’s love, we need never doubt the sincerity of God’s love for us. Love compelled Him to come to this world in the person of Jesus Christ and suffer and die on our behalf.

It was love that gave Him the victory over death and made Him ascend to heaven where He intercedes for us. It was love that urged Him to forgive our sins and offer us the gift of His Holy Spirit.

This world will never know any love greater than that of Jesus Christ. He gave us the example of sincere love and urges us to love as He loved.

Prayer

God of love, please help me to never lose sight of the greatness of Your love for me, no matter what happens in my life. Amen.

PRAYER: THE CHALLENGE

Scripture

“Being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly.” – Luke 22:44

Message

There are enriching moments in prayer when you experience glorious intimacy with God and are filled with inexpressible joy. But true prayer often has a seriousness that touches on the deeper issues of life.

When you pray that God will help you grow spiritually, or show you the right way to live, or use you in His service, you will experience the full impact of the challenge of prayer.

Such prayers are essentially between you and God, but you will soon discover that they touch other people as well. As God lays people on your heart, you begin to understand the responsibility of prayer. Sharing in this privilege strengthens you to live in love towards God and your fellow man.

Prayer

Lord, I pray that my heart would be overwhelmed by the love of God so that I can truly Love and pray for those around me. Amen.

SURRENDER YOUR LIFE TO GOD

Scripture

“Lord, teach us to pray.” – Luke 11:1

Message

Most Christians are very aware of their inability to pray according to the will of God. Christ sacrificed Himself for us. He gave Himself freely, but He will enrich your life only as far as you allow Him to.

The depth and quality of your devotion to Him will be reflected in the strength of your prayer life. It does not mean a thing to ask God for a meaningful and positive prayer life unless you do your share to develop it.

If you surrender yourself more completely to Christ, you will become increasingly aware of His living presence in your prayer life.

Prayer

Lord teach me not to fret about what tomorrow may bring. Teach me to quietly trust in You, because You are good and all-wise. Amen.

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND PRAYER

“Live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature” – Galatians 5:16
Many of us desire to have a meaningful prayer life; to set aside more time for God and grow in our relationship with Him, but time and again we fail.
To triumph over Satan’s attempts to distract us in our prayer time is not easy. Yet Jesus promised the help of the Holy Spirit to those who embrace Him as their Lord and Saviour. “The Spirit helps us in our weakness” (Romans 8:26)
Open yourself up to the influence of the Holy Spirit, be obedient to His guidance, and you will find that your prayer life will change dramatically – for the better.

Lord Jesus, let me always pray, give testimony, and serve with love. Teach me to act in response to the guidance of Your Spirit. Amen.

LOVE FORGETS ABOUT SELF

Scripture

“Love does not boast.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4

Message

Boasting is a negative form of love, called self-love. True love is selfless. It would rather confess unworthiness than boast of its own achievements. Some people give their love as though they were bestowing an honour on the receiver. That is not love; that is conceit.

The one that truly loves cannot stop marveling at the fact that there is someone who loves him. Love is kept humble in the knowledge that it could never make a sufficiently worthy sacrifice for the one it loves.

This also applies to our spiritual lives. We dare not accept God’s love as a matter of course as if we deserved it. Such pride robs us of the blessing and spiritual growth that God has in mind for us.

Prayer

Lord, keep me humble in my love, so that it does not become the cause of pride and arrogance. Amen.

THE SONG OF LOVE

Scripture

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal”. – 1 Corinthians 13:1

Message

This chapter unlocks all the noble qualities of love. Here, Paul speaks about the path of love. He begins by saying that one can possess any spiritual gift, but if it does not bear the stamp of love, it is useless.

If love is not part of miracles, of sacrifice, or of our spoken and intellectual gifts, then they are fruitless. The gift of intellectual excellence without love leads to intellectual snobbery. Knowledge lit by the fire of love is the only kind of knowledge that can save people. None of these are worth anything if they do not go hand-in-hand with true love.

Prayer

Lord, my God, I thank You that all the love in my life is but a mere stepping stone towards You. Amen.
